What this site collects

We count page views so we know which articles people find useful. That is done with a cookieless analytics service that records the page, the referrer, and a coarse country — no cookies, no cross-site identifier, and nothing that identifies you.

There are no advertising trackers, no social media pixels, and no third-party fonts. The typefaces are served from this domain, so loading a page here does not tell anyone else that you did.

The one exception

The camera map is DeFlock’s, not ours, and it loads from their servers. We only load it once you scroll down to it, so opening the page does not contact them — but if you look at the map, your browser talks to DeFlock and to the other scripts their map uses, including one that counts visits for them. We think their map is better than anything we would build, and we would rather send you to the people maintaining it than quietly copy their work.

Your address goes to Buttondown, which sends our newsletter and stores the list. We use it to send updates about this campaign and nothing else. We do not sell it, trade it, or hand it to another organization. Every email has an unsubscribe link and it works.

We keep the message so we can reply. We do not publish anything you send us without asking you first.
